Hell to the YE~ES!! My sudden proposal got accepted!! I, Isabella, am going to get married to Ursch-kun!! Man, it was totally worth shaving all those years off my life before.
What’s that? It’s just a child’s verbal agreement, you say? It’s true, it is just a verbal agreement between children. I know that much. Heh heh heh. You think I’d let him escape with such a paltry excuse?
Seeing his smiling face, I couldn’t help but seize his hand. Here we go! The first step!! My actions were sudden, but Ursch-kun willingly ran off with me. To be honest, I was a bit worried how easily he had come with me, no questions asked. Is this kid gonna be okay if he’s this defenseless? He’s the son of a wealthy merchant, isn’t he? Won’t he get kidnapped if he’s this vulnerable? Worried, I decided to take a peek at him and, yep, even when running he’s simply marvelous.
“Say, Where’re we going~?” Seeing me look back at him, Ursch-kun finally asked the question.
“To see my parents. Ah, forgive me, I almost forgot. I am Duke Rottenstein’s third daughter, Isabella Ali Rottenstein. From now, and till the end of time, I’ll be in your care.” As we ran hand in hand towards my family’s mansion, I finally introduced myself to Ursch-kun. Even when out of breath, he still found room to be surprised.
Hee hee, even when surprised he still didn’t open his eyes. So cute… wait, I mean, of course it would be surprising. Normally you wouldn’t expect the daughter of the Duke to do a drive-by proposal.
“I’m Ursch Schneiver. Schneiver Company’s second son.” Ursch-kun’s family name!! It’s here—! It’s “Schneiver”!! So in the future, I’ll be known as Isabella Ali Schneiver! It’s settled. “But if you’re the Duke’s daughter, won’t you be unable to marry into a merchant family like mine? …Should we just run away together?”
Wha-!! We’re going to just elope? I’m so happy…no wait! “Be at ease. By my calculations, everything will turn out just fine.” That’s right. If Isabella’s family follows the game’s logic, then this wedding can happen. I should be able to just bull my way through. Probably. “Which is why you should leave everything to me!!”
“Okay. I don’t really get it, but if Isabella has a plan, then I’ll leave it to you~” Ursch-kun gently smiled while nodding his head. So cute. And he called me Isabella!! I’m abso-positively elated!! I’ll give it everything I’ve got to make this happiness last a lifetime!!
Let me take a moment to explain Isabella’s family situation in “Love☆Magical”. Her father is the current Duke of the Rottenstein family, and Rosereale Kingdom’s Prime Minister. Her mother is the younger sister of the current King of Rosereale, making her a former princess. For the record, let it be known that the mother and father married for true love.
They currently have five children, two boys and three girls, with Isabella being the youngest. The eldest daughter is married to the Crown Prince of the neighboring Deanna Kingdom, basically making her the Crown Princess. For the record, they also married for true love. The eldest son possesses such great magic that he currently serves alongside Duke Rottenstein as his aide, while also frequently associating with the Order of Mages Headquarters at the Royal Palace. His fiance is the daughter of the Minister of the Mages Division. For the record, they are madly in love.
The second son has a talent for the sword, and belongs to the Order of Imperial Knights. His fiance is the daughter of the Head of the Imperial Knights. For the record, they are also madly in love. The second daughter is still attending school, but she is already engaged to a Count out in the Borderlands. For the record, they are madly in love as well.
…Are you starting to see a pattern here? Why yes, that’s correct. The Rottenstein Dukedom holds a great amount of influence. The Royal family, The neighboring Royal family, the Order of Mages, the Order of Imperial Knights, the Borderlands… They’re like a completed set!! Such was the political might of the Rottensteins that even other nobles considered them dangerous!!
And, in a strange twist of events for a noble family, marrying for true love reigned supreme!! Additionally, Isabella from the game was to be engaged to the second prince of the kingdom. Just how far would the Rottenstein family spread?
However, unlike the others, Isabella had forced her way into marriage with the second prince after falling in love at first sight. Thus one couldn’t exactly say they were madly in love. In the game, the second prince was so indifferent and apathetic about everything that he didn’t even care who he got engaged to, and thus accepted Isabella’s proposal without a second thought. Nevertheless, the story goes that when the curtain opened on the game at the Magic Academy and the prince met the Heroine for the first time, she was able to thaw his frozen heart, and he promptly fell in love. However, the second prince’s fiance, the villainous noble girl Isabella, couldn’t forgive this turn of events. She used everything in her power, even going so far as to practically commit a crime with her own hands, all for the sake of destroying the heroine.
But, in the end, the second prince exposed all of her misdeeds. All in all, it was a stereotypical story of poetic justice. Considering how opposed the other royalty and nobility were to their engagement in the first place, one of the highlight scenes of the game was the moment when the villainess Isabella was convicted of her crimes. After severing her engagement to the second prince, the entire Rottenstein family was found guilty of attempted sabotage, and were subsequently demoted from their Ducal rank. As for the villainess Isabella, in accordance with her many crimes committed in broad daylight against the heroine, depending on the route, she was either executed, deprived of all of possessions and banished, forced to be the second wife of a middle-aged merchant, or forced to be one of the very commoners she used to hold in contempt.
At present though, with political power slanted too much in my favor, if I were to marry a commoner who held no peerage from the very start, although it wouldn’t quite break even, at least a certain balance could be established, don’t you think? Even better, if I were not betrothed to the second prince, then there would be no need to jealously bully the heroine for her relationship with the second prince. Thus, I wouldn’t have to meet my end by execution.
If Isabella from the game could force her way into an engagement with the second prince, despite all the opposition from the nobility and royalty, surely I could force my way into an engagement with a mere second son of a merchant. In fact, wouldn’t it be a piece of cake by comparison to a royal engagement? At least that was my thinking. Furthermore, with my parents and siblings having married for true love, and me being the spoiled little princess of my family, if it’s a heartfelt request from their precious youngest child, I imagine they wouldn’t raise much of a fuss.
Thus, armed with my previous life’s memories and knowledge of the villainess Isabella’s background, my chances of success skyrocketed.
Together with Ursch-kun, I barged into the drawing room where my parents were in the middle of negotiations. While my parents looked surprised by my sudden intrusion, I took the initiative to strike first and got straight to the point as I declared, “Father, Mother!! I am going to marry this boy!!”
“Not ‘I would like to marry this boy,’ but ‘I am going to marry this boy,’ this is the key point in the resolute declaration by contestant Isabella. Initiating with such force of will and depth of desire, an excellent frontal assault. Contestant Duke Rottenstein, having been ambushed by her sudden attack, is left unable to respond. Contestant Isabella appears to be awaiting a reaction from contestant Duke Rottenstein. The two face each other with neither taking any further action, bringing about a stalemate. Who will make the next move, keep your eyes peeled for-“
“Mother, could I ask you not to give the play by play? … “
“Of~course, my dear Isabella.” Unlike my frozen father, my mother was quite nonchalant as she began her live coverage of the event. Rather, wasn’t she making things even more confusing? I’ve never heard of a former princess becoming a sportscaster.
My father, still shocked by our small exchange, remained frozen in place. Ah wait… he fell over. Despite his large frame of over 2m (6’5″) and weight of over 100kg (220lb) of pure muscle, Father was a man with a surprisingly delicate heart, and he collapsed from the sudden shock. Rather than being a Duke, or the Prime Minister, or being hounded by paperwork, he looked more suited to running through a battlefield on the front lines with an axe or hammer in his hands. With that big body of his, even the several panicking servants couldn’t just carry him out of the drawing room and had to resort to dragging him.
… Even I couldn’t believe Father would collapse from the shock. It was outside of my predictions. I mean, seriously. His oldest daughter was already married off to another country, and his second daughter was betrothed to a count’s son way out in Borderlands, and that never phased him. So why on earth did his third daughter bringing along her desired fiance cause this grown man to faint? It came out of left field!
This befuddling series of events had the servants in a tizzy as some of them tried to drag my father out of the room, while others were hurriedly trying to move any nearby wares out of the way. Even company president collapsed. Meanwhile, Mother continued to enjoy the situation, reacting and laughing to each new development.
Witnessing this chaotic turn of events, I was left standing stiff with Ursch-kun. “Isabella, it looks like your dad fainted. It seems like he might have hit his head, will he be okay…?” Ursch-kun’s eyebrows were knitted together, and he watched my father get dragged out the door. I thought I might face a little bit of resistance before getting his approval, thus I’d been devising a plan for that, but it didn’t seem I’d get to use it any time soon.
As there was nothing more I could do at present, I decided to make calming the worried Ursch-kun my top priority. Mm? Should we go check on how my father’s doing? I think it’s okay to put that off for now. Yes, let’s do that later. With Mother and the servants by his side, he’ll be fine. “If we’re talking about my father, he’ll be just fine. His body is just as resilient as it looks. A little bump on the head after fainting won’t cause any lasting damage.”
“Rather than damage to his head, I think he took some damage to his heart…”
“Urk! That… might be so. I’m sorry I’ve caused you to worry over him.”
“Of course I’ll worry. He’s your dad, Isabella. I still have to get his blessing for our marriage.”
Ursch-kun!! He’s totally on board with our engagement!! I’m so happy!! “Um, what if, and this is just hypothetical… but what if father doesn’t give us his blessing…”
“Then we’ll just run away~. We can’t do it right away though, but once we can live on our own, let’s leave the royal capital. By then, I should be able to support you, Isabella~” A soft smile floated to Ursch-kun’s face, as if it was perfectly natural to talk about eloping.
Ah, so he was actually serious when he talked about running away together before!! If I could live together with Ursch-kun, even if it meant eloping or living in poverty, Bring! It! On! Compared to the game’s endings of being executed or being the second wife of a middle aged man, eloping with Ursch-kun would be practically paradise!!
Now that I thought about it, considering we both attended the Magic Academy, we should both be capable of using magic. So, wouldn’t a life after eloping work out just fine? “In that case, we can peddle wares together!!”
“Wow, that’s a great idea. Then from now on, I should help my dad in the store, and save up my allowance. Then we can start out with a small cart and horse, what do you think?”
“Of course, I don’t mind in the slightest!! I wonder if it would be best to start out with medicinal herbs and spices? I should start studying herbs!!” It was a gaming staple, starting off with your first quest of collecting medicinal herbs!! There was a minigame in “Love☆Magical” where you could harvest mushrooms and herbs, so I thought there must be demand for those kinds of items.
“For the medicinal plants, leave it to me~ I think I’ll even be able to synthesize them.” Even though he was laughing while making such remarks, Ursch-kun still came off as reliable. As expected of a merchant’s son, he has a wealth of knowledge regarding medicinal plants. He’s just so amazing!!
But what did he mean by he thinks he’d be able to do it? Was it something like he had the knowledge, but had never actually put it to use? I didn’t really get it, but I knew that Ursch-kun in the game was able to use alchemy to make recovery items and various other items to sell, so I don’t doubt he can do something like synthesizing; There shouldn’t be any problems with that. But it seemed to have some deeper meaning than that. An Ursch-kun with a mysterious side to him is Just! Too! Cool!!
As we both held hands while talking about this and that for our future as peddlers, a single man came crawling towards us. “Wait… wait just a moment you two, please stop with those plans of yours…”
Ah, this was the other person who passed out earlier, the president of the Schneiver Company. Wait. Then does that mean…?
“Hu~uh? Dad? What are you doing? Crawling around on all fours and shaking like that… Are you pretending to be a newborn fawn?” Ursch-kun spoke to the crawling man, tilting his head as he stared at him.
That’s right, if he’s the president of the Schneiver Company, it’s obvious he’s Ursch-kun father. That means I need to give him a proper greeting… “Allow me to bid you a good day, sir. I am the third daughter of Duke Rottenstein, the one known as Isabella Ali Rottenstein. It is my honor to meet you, my future Father-in-law.”
“Eh… ‘future Father-in-law’…? No, wait. Putting that aside for now, Lady Isabella… I’m the father of Ursch, the boy next to you, and my name is Nathan Schneiver. As a merchant of the Schneiver Company, we’ve had the pleasure of doing business with your family many times before.”
“Yes, I am very thankful for all the beautiful hair accessories and dresses you’ve made and sold to our family.” The Schneiver Company had a line of quality products, from fantastic fabrics to attractive accessories. Even the designs of the dresses were a wonder to behold. Fast in both production and delivery, they were a company with quite the reputation among the noble ladies.
But even within the Rosereale Kingdom, despite having one or two other big competitors in that area, their main merchandise was something else entirely. At the heart of the Schneiver Company trade was “Magic Items”. They did everything, from cultivating promising young alchemists, to having a great employment plan, and their workshop for Magic Items held a great number of wares. “Oh no, it is I who am grateful for the patronage of the Rottenstein family. …Incidentally, I have something to speak about with my son over there. May I borrow him for a short while?”
What did they need to talk about? My guess would be something about the marriage? I know I still need to persuade my father, but now that I think about it, I’ll also need to convince Ursch-kun’s family too, won’t I? What a huge blunder on my part. “That will be no problem, sir. Ursch, I’ll wait right here, so please have a nice talk with Father-in-law.”
“Okay! I’ll be right back, just wait for me~” The air filled with warmth from his smile, and even though he was leaving, Ursch-kun waving at me as he went left my heart at ease.
“Ursch… how did something like this happen…” In the corridor right outside the drawing room, my dad was leaning against the wall. He look exhausted, and had his head in his hands. It’s not like I didn’t know why he was upset. No matter how large the company is, there’s no way for a commoner with no noble peerage to get married to a noble lady, much less one with such prestige as the daughter of the Rottenstein family.
And yet, not only did his son promise to marry such a noble girl, they even declared it to the Duke and Duchess themselves. And, to top it all off, the Duke had fainted causing quite a commotion. As my dad was at his wit’s end wondering just how things turned out like this, I decided to explain the situation as I remembered it from the beginning.
After my mom gave birth to my younger brother, she wasn’t doing well during her “Postpartum Recovery”, and remained bedridden. My older brother, who was ten years old at the time, was set to inherit the company, and went to elementary school to delve into his studies. In the meantime, my younger brother was still just a baby, so the wet nurses were looking after him.
Dad thought I would be lonely being left by myself, so he took me along on his business trips. To be honest though… I would have preferred to stay behind at home or at the shop. Even though he took me with him, there wasn’t much for me to do inside the carriage, and so I quickly became bored. But even when I left the carriage, I would inadvertently be discovered by the children of the nobles my dad was negotiating with. As I was a commoner, they would viciously ridicule me, sometimes going so far as to even violently assault me. Thus I made do by holing myself up in the boredom inducing carriage.
Because of my thin eyes, those jerks would mock me by asking if my eyes were open or closed. They would also yank on my hair, joking that something must be living within the fluffy and disorderly mess. As the bullying continued, I started to hate my own appearance.
Moreover, as the company had greatly expanded during my great-grandfather’s time, some of the jealous nobility labeled us “Fafnir’s Kin”, which might have been where some of the bullying originated from. “Fafnir” referred to those obsessed with gold, in the same the way the poisonous dragon of legend hoarded it. To be compared to that poisonous dragon, the nouveau riche Schneiver Company was derided as gold-obsessed.
Those stupid nobles were so full of themselves, and so nasty, I hate them! You’d think I should just not tag along on his business trips then, but the truth was, with dad doing his best to support our family, I didn’t want to say anything to upset him as he was just worried about leaving me alone at home.
Thus, my father brought me along on his trip to Duke Rottenstein’s mansion. The estate was so big it even had a forest with a stream running through it. There’s no way you could call something like this a mere “Garden”. With such a grand estate, even among all the other noble ranks, the only peerage above this “Duke” would be the King himself.
I knew that Duke Rottenstein currently serves as the Prime Minister, and his wife, Madam Rottenstein, is the daughter of the current King. The reason the Duke’s family had called on my father was to deliver a birthday present to their eldest daughter, who was married to the neighboring country’s Crown Prince. Being the Crown Prince meant that, right? The one who was next in line to be king? So wouldn’t that mean the eldest daughter was to become the neighboring country’s next queen? Doesn’t that make the Rottenstein Dukedom super politically influential? Aah, how obnoxious. I bet they’re even more arrogant and nasty than other nobles. I’m definitely not getting out of the carriage today.
──At least, that’s what I said, four hours ago. Just how long were the Duke and Duchess going to shop for? I mean, we did bring three carts worth of wares so it would take some time to go through all of it. But still, four hours was beyond my expectations. Unable to stand it any longer, I got out of the carriage. So as not to get in the way of our employees who were constantly loading and unloading the merchandise, I crouched down just outside the carriage.
Ah, a line of ants. The way they were carrying their food back to their nest reminded me of our employees ferrying our goods back and forth between the carts and the mansion. I found it a little amusing.
“H-Hey… what are you looking at over there?” While I was preoccupied with the ants, I heard a sing-song voice nearby.
When I turned to face the owner of that voice, I found before me a beautiful girl, the likes of which I’d never seen before. Her hair was like spun gold, sparkling and shining as it swayed to and fro underneath the sun. Long, brilliant golden eyelashes bordered her deep blue eyes, the kind that were so clear they would just suck you in. And her skin was white and crystal-clear like porcelain.
A fairy? Or perhaps a young Goddess? Why would such a beautiful creature appear here? Why did she look at me with such a happy and delighted smile on her face? Wait a minute, didn’t she just ask me something? What was it again? … Was it… what was I looking at? I think so.
“… Ants?” Oh shoot, I phrased it like a question. What’ll I do if such a pretty girl thinks I’m just a kid that doesn’t know anything about anything?
While I was busy worrying to myself, she became even more flustered as her cheeks flushed a deep red. But, for some reason, her eyes sparkled and her smile grew even larger. Just what great or amazing thing occurred to make her smile that passionately? Her smile was so powerful that even I was filled with warmth and happiness just by looking at it.
“Aaaaa!! So cute!! So darling!! Please marry meeee~…!!”
… Eh? ………What’d she say? She just asked me to marry her, didn’t she? Who? Me? Eh? Me? Eh? Why me?
Wait wait wait… isn’t someone like me unworthy of someone like her? Besides, people call my family Fafnir’s Kin, you know? That she would propose to someone like me… Ah, maybe she just didn’t know my family is called Fafnir’s Kin?
While I was lost in thought, she continued to stare at me with her flushed cheeks and sparkling eyes. From her clenched fists, to the way she was bouncing up and down, filled with eager anticipation. I just couldn’t help it.
… She’s so cute. If I stayed by her side every day for the rest of my life, I could die happy. I don’t think there’s anyone else that could make me feel this way with just a smile. I’m sure even if I were to search for a lifetime, I wouldn’t find anyone else in the world who would look at me with such glittering eyes. Yes. That’s how it is. It’s more than someone like me could ever hope to dream of, I knew that. I knew it wouldn’t do for such a good girl to be tied down with me.
But oh how I wanted her. For her to smile at me with those radiant eyes. I truly wanted her. I’ll make her my “Treasure”. In truth, I knew there was another hidden meaning to the “Fafnir’s Kin” moniker besides being gold obsessed. Since long ago, our family has always been strangely obsessed with a certain “Thing” or “Person” or “Deed”. Once I became devoted to my own “Treasure”, item, human, or otherwise, I knew I would do anything to obtain it, and bare my fangs at any who would try to take it from me. It was this single-minded devotion to our “Gold(Treasures)” that made us greatly resemble the hoarder Fafnir.
I knew someday I would find my own treasure, but to think it turned out to be this girl. As my “Treasure”, she will be my “One and Only”. For the sake of seeing even more of those shining smiles, I would do anything, anything, to have her. If she wanted the world, I would give it to her, gift-wrapped with a cute ribbon. So please be mine.
“Sure~. When we grow up, you can be my bride. …No take backsies, okay?” I definitely, absolutely won’t let you get away, okay?
After I gave a brief explanation of the events and conversations that preceded this, I announced to my father, “She, Isabella, is my “One and Only Treasure”. I’ve finally found her~”
Dad sighed deeply, and looked at me with pleading eyes. “I’m begging you, please give up on her, there must be something else you can fixate on…”
“It can’t be done. You know that, don’t you?”
Dad somehow wrenched out a mumbled acknowledgement, put his hands on his hips, and let out another big sigh. “I know, I know… it can’t be changed. In any case, we’ll need to think of something. Especially since we’ll need a solid, well thought out plan to convince your mother. Anything ‘Concerning her Children’ could get ugly.”
After Ursch-kun and Father-in-Law left the drawing room, I went out to the terrace. There, I discovered a gathering of the Schneiver employees, and made my way closer. There was a good possibility I could learn more about Ursch-kun’s Father by eavesdropping. In order to successfully convince him, it was essential to learn about his personality, likes, and dislikes.
“All right, let’s start with the departure preparations~. We’ll move the ten items the Duke and Duchess were seriously considering, as well as the five items they were mulling over, into the first warehouse to make them easier to get later. Take everything else to the second warehouse.” It looked like the merchandise they brought was being returned to their storage facilities. They had a bunch of large furniture like dressers, armoires, and full-length mirrors. It looked like a pain for the employees to have to move them around. The amount of goods could fill a small showroom. Just how many trips back and forth would it take them?
“It’d be great if they could use 【Closet】.” 【Closet】 was the name of the item box in “Love☆Magical”. Just calling it an “Item Box” would have been fine, but since it was an Otome game marketed towards women, they decided to go with something more cutesy like 【Closet】. 【Closet】 would probably be classified as some form of “Space-Time Magic”. Too bad I didn’t know the activation conditions to use such a thing in this world. If I did it’d surely be useful right about now. “【Closet】 Open!! Just kidding☆”
I knew there was no way it would appear, but it was fun to joke around and try it… out… eh? Before my eyes, about 30 centimeters away, a see-through 【Closet】 materialized out of thin air, leaving me dumbfounded. Woahnowwaitaminute. I just said it wouldn’t appear, yet now here it is!! Was it really just that easy to summon it? Touché, fantasy world, touché.
The 【Closet】 appeared easily enough, and, despite its reasonably large size, no one around me seemed to take any notice. I guess only the caster could see it. No matter where I moved my head, the 【Closet】 followed and kept its same position directly in front of my vision.
…But why did it open? Wasn’t it just a feature limited to the game? Also, as this was the very first time I used it, it should have been empty. So why did it indicate that it was packed full of items? Rather, how do I even use it? Was it a touch panel style interface? Or maybe through force of will?
I could only stare at the suddenly summoned 【Closet】. The people around me might find it strange if I made a bunch of gestures in the empty air, so I tried to move it with sheer willpower instead. Hrrrn… Ooo! I really can move it with my mind. Hurhur, and it looks like the contents are all separated by different categories.
I opened up the Recovery Items section. Inside it was further divided into subcategories; Recovery Elixirs, Equipables, Amulets, and the like. Recovery Elixirs were probably something like potions… so let’s look at the Equipables instead.
…… Eh, these things, they look like the items I collected in the game. All the things I purchased by my sacrificing my food money, they reincarnated with me. Could this be that so-called “Cheat Reincarnation”? Even so, I gotta say this is quite a grand collection of items. Checking out the rest of the items contained within the 【Closet】 would be easy.
I can’t quite remember everything I’ve collected, as back then I cared more about seeing Ursch-kun rather than what dropped from the gacha. There were normal equipable items like the “Charm Boost Dress”, and in my need to get complete sets from the gacha, I obtained quite a number of duplicates. But such duplicates were highly desired by all players, as you could trade in ten normal items, like dresses, for one of something else like a potion. Thus, duplicates were few. The potions could also be acquired with minigame points, and could also be bought for 150 yen.
Gacha items were roughly 200~500 yen each, and by trading ten items in you could get some rather popular special items. By doing that, I was able to get rid of a significant amount of my hoard. In order to avoid maxing out my 【Closet】’s item capacity, I’d regularly trade in prizes from the paid gacha. If I knew before hand I’d be reincarnating, I definitely would’ve wanted the trade-in Potions over duplicate dresses. Which is why I can honestly say my past self did the right thing, good job Me.
And of course this meant I had an abnormal amount of potions. Potions came in two varieties, “MP Potions(Magic Recovery Elixir)” and “HP Potion(Stamina Recovery Elixir)” of which there were four grades: Low (30% recovery), Medium (50% recovery), High (80% recovery), and Divine (full recovery). As long as we weren’t engaged in war, even at list price, it’d probably take me 5 years to sell all of these. “All right, even if I have to give up everything to be a peddler with Ursch, we can still sell these. Since the assets themselves cost nothing, we can turn a good profit on them.”
Then there were the Expendables. First, the “Effect Type”. They were things that could make your avatar sparkle or have hearts float around it on the home screen, however… Because it wasn’t an actual “thing” the 【Closet】 had no way of storing it. There was no way to pull out something intangible.
The other kind of items were the [Hidden SSS Rare] vanity items, the “Magic Eyes of the Seven Deadly Sins”. ‘What the heck is a [Hidden SSS Rare]’ was what I thought back then, as there was no event, no special gacha, and no idea what the eyes of a deadly sin would look like. It’s what you’d call a legendary rare. There was never any official announcement for the “Magic Eyes of the Seven Deadly Sins” series, nor any official documentation of them. Although it’s possible they didn’t want to get caught up in the red tape of “Not knowing it was against the ‘Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations’,” as the acquisition rate was abysmally low.
Additionally, by making them untradeable items, if you wanted it, you had to acquire it yourself. In which case, it was nigh impossible to complete the set of the Seven Deadly Sins. Oh? Me? I mean, I do have the complete set of the Seven Deadly Sins, but what of it? The item only changed my avatar’s eye color, but otherwise had no effect. Plus, even when I lucked out getting the item in the gacha, Ursch-kun never had any special reaction. ‘The heck is up with that?
But, it’s not like I saw any left in my 【Closet】. Seeing eyeballs rolling around in my 【Closet】 would have been too terrifying, so I’m glad they aren’t there. Now, as far as the other items still left to check up on, there were weapons and consumables… I think it’s okay to skip weapons for now. There would certainly be chaos if the noble’s daughter suddenly pulled out a sword amidst a crowd of people working in the drawing room. I was honestly more curious about the state of food items after being left unattended in my 【Closet】 for six years.
Let’s see~, for instance… this “Giant Frog Toasted Sandwich.” But really a Giant Frog? Like some kind of humongous amphibian made into a sandwich? Isn’t that kind of a weird combination? I really had something like that in here? I’m suddenly scared… Hm? Wait, Giant Frog? Oh!! I remember it now!! This was food you could make from the “Massive Giant Frog Outbreak Event” in version 2 of “Love☆Magical”. Man, what a great event that was. Sure makes me all nostalgic. Wait… huh?
Isabella was the villainess, the sole villain in Version 1. She shouldn’t be in Version 2… Was it all right for me, Isabella, to have these things? Doesn’t this go against the chronological order events were supposed to happen in? …Being as I couldn’t make heads or tails of this, I decided to simply put it to the side and stop thinking about it.
For now, I took out the mysterious dish “Giant Frog Toasted Sandwich” thing. Nice, it’s not rotten at all… and in fact it looks piping hot. Almost as if it was freshly made. Contrary to my expectations, the dish looked ordinarily tasty. It made the most sense to think of 【Closet】-san not as “Space Magic”, but rather the more powerful “Space-Time Magic”, didn’t it? I didn’t even know if such magic existed here, but being that time appeared to stop for anything put inside, I’d put money on it involving some form of time manipulation.
I put the toasted sandwich back inside, then took it back out, then put it back in again. Great, there were no problems with depositing and withdrawing numerous times. Then what about something that wasn’t originally in there? I touched one of the vases filled with flowers from the drawing room, storing it in the 【Closet】. All right, it worked!
Indeed, the “Splendid Flower-filled Vase” was now in the 【Closet】’s inventory. Now to take it back out. Then put it in again. Then back out again. Nice, no problem here either. After making sure nothing would go wrong, I drew near the Schneiver employees ferrying the merchandise.
“Lady Isabella! Is something the matter? Let’s talk over there, it’s too dangerous here with all the items being moved around.” One of the workers came over to me and took me by the hand to lead me to safety.
“No need, it looked like you all were having a difficult time transporting the merchandise, so I’ve come to offer my assistance.” Even the other workers turned their heads to give me a shocked look at what I just said. I mean, I knew it wasn’t common for the daughter of a noble to help carry cargo, but I didn’t know it would be that surprising…
“You would, My Lady?! Oh no no!! It’s far too heavy, and I could never ask that of My Lady, never!!” He shook his head so hard I thought it just might detach from his shoulders. He didn’t have to decline that strongly.
“As I will not be lifting anything, it will be perfectly fine. If I do this, I can easily carry even large loads.” As I explained, I made an example of a dresser and showed him that with just a touch I could store the item in my 【Closet】. Seeing the dresser suddenly vanish in front of their eyes, all the other workers in the vicinity stopped in their tracks.
My bad, did that scare them? Ah, I guess it makes sense they’d be troubled if their precious merchandise suddenly disappeared. Considering they’re still stupefied and unmoving, if I bring the dresser back out to show them their product is safe and sound, then that should put them at ease, right? Managing only a bitter smile, I quickly pulled the dresser out of the 【Closet】.
“““““……!! Eeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhh??””””” The employees screamed so loud upon seeing the dresser reappear that I worried their voices might go hoarse.
Aren’t they acting a bit too surprised?! This is a magical world, right? It’s not something to get so worked up over, right?! That is unless… they know nothing about the 【Closet】? Was it really such a rare skill?
“That is to say, I used a kind of ‘Space-Time Magic’. It’s magic capable of keeping items in the same condition as they were when they were stored. I had hoped to be able to assist you carrying your wares with it… would that still be possible?” Even explaining how the magic worked didn’t improve the current situation, as the workers still stood frozen with their mouths agape. As I wondered in confusion just how I was going to fix all this, my savior appeared.
“Just what is going on here, you lot? Can’t you see you’re troubling Lady Isabella?” I turned around to see Ursch-kun and Father-in-Law, along with a gaggle of rubbernecking servants from the mansion.
“-Gah!! P-p-p-p-p-resident!! That’s! Uh, we-! Lady Isabella here, she-!!” The employee tried his best to explain what happened, but was ultimately too flustered to even form a proper sentence.
I didn’t see their conversation going any further, so I took it upon myself to offer a proper explanation. “It looked to be a great undertaking to move all these items, so I took it upon myself to offer my help with the aid of my ‘Space-Time Magic’.” I wasn’t 100% certain the 【Closet】 was actually a type of “Space-Time Magic”, but stated it as fact anyway. I didn’t see any other way to explain it.
“Pardon? ‘Space-Time Magic’? … What kind of magic is that?” Father-in-Law asked with a tilt of his head.
I met Father-in-Law a number of time before my past memories returned, but never noticed until now that Ursch-kun really takes after his father. Especially with those thin eyes. If Ursch-kun grew to have a lithe figure, he’d look just like his father. Did being the president of such a large company cause him to become emaciated?
As I wondered about that, I turned my gaze towards Father-in-Law. “The item remains unchanged from the moment it enters the space, as if time is stopped for it. Here, watch this.” As I explained, I placed my hand on a number of items like dressers, armoires, and chests, and tucked them away into my 【Closet】. After I finished storing all the items from the drawing room, I brought them back out before Father-in-Law. Both he and the servants were frozen like statues. Please, someone, say something, anything.
In the end, the one to finally break the silence was none other than my beloved Ursch-kun. “Wo~ow. That’s amazing Isabella. But how do you get the things back out of the time stopped place?”
Ursch-kun marvelling over my abilities was just so adorable I was practically in agony. He even went so far as to clap in amazement while tilting his head. I could barely retain a pretense of composure as I took out a few more items. “As you can see, I am able to withdraw and deposit items at my leisure.”
“Woow!! Your magic is the envy of all merchants~. Even if you don’t have a large cart, you can easily carry so many wares~”
As our conversation went on, the servants finally rebooted from their sleep mode and dashed out of the drawing room. “Maaaaadaam!! Maaasteer!! It’s urgent, come quicklyyyy!!” The servants screams faded into the distance as they ran off.
When I turned back around, I found both the father and son staring at me with gigantic smiles on their faces. “There’s something I’d like to confirm with you, if you don’t mind, Lady Isabella?” Having recovered from his daze, Father-in-Law asked me a smile. It was a great, albeit alarming, smile, as if he was just about to start vigorously rubbing his hands together.
“That’s quite all right. How can I help?”
“Would it be correct for me to assume that the items stored by this so-called ‘Space-Time Magic’ would move with the user wherever they go?”
“That is certainly the case. The user can retrieve the item no matter how far they’ve traveled from the place where they first stored the item.” My gamer brain initially gawked at his lack of knowledge on how an item box works in-game, but then I realized this must be his first time seeing such strange magic. So of course he’d have a million questions.
“I see. One more thing, earlier you said that time stopped for items within the space. Could you explain that in a little more detail, please?”
Now then, how should I go about explaining it? I needed something to demonstrate that time was stopped for items which would preserve them in their initial condition. I could always show them the “Giant Frog Toasted Sandwiches”, however… It’d be troublesome if they asked, “Where did you get this?” It wasn’t something you’d normally find on the menu in a Duke’s home, so it’d be strange for the Duke’s daughter to possess it. That being the case, what other item in my 【Closet】 wouldn’t be strange for a Duke’s daughter to have?
I checked the contents of the 【Closet】 for something harmless and ordinary. “Blue Rosereale on the Rocks”…this. It’d certainly prove time had stopped since the ice would remain unmelted, but… this would definitely raise even more questions of “where did you get this?” as well, wouldn’t it?
A rare gacha pull, this “All-Powerful Full Recovery & Healing Item”. It’s a single-use item though. But in the end what’s most important is whether it’s an item I should have or not. Why did Ursch-kun have such a godly premium item in the gacha? It’s a mystery.
Don’t I have something more normal? Anything ordinary at all. Ah!! I do!! These!! “Iced Lemonade” and “Hot Lemonade”!! They recover the SAN stat (Sanity) by 3, but since they don’t look all that special they should do the trick. An Otome game having a SAN stat in the first place was a bit odd, but since no other Otome games had it, I just stopped thinking about it.
In any case, I took the two aforementioned items out to show Father-in-Law. “Now then, it’s like this. Cold items will remain cold, and hot items will remain hot. It’s as if time has stopped for them. As such, they also won’t spoil over time.”
Father-in-Law gingerly took the lemonade I offered. After also checking the second lemonade, he voiced his admiration. “This is amazing!! With this magic, it’s not just a dream to purchase large amounts of produce, seafood, or herbs and store them without worrying about spoilage!! How did you learn this magic?”
“I-I wonder? Once I matured enough, I found I just knew it.” That’s a lie. Truthfully, I only learned I about it 10 minutes ago.
“I see. Well, it’s a magic we’ve neither seen nor heard of until now. Surely it must be a Rare Skill.” So it’s a magic he’s never heard of, is it? It truly must be rare. Should I refrain from using it too much in public then? “But I must say, this drink has the most pleasant smell. What did you call it? Even the cup is magnificent. Please, I must do business with the company that made it. Where did you purchase it from?”
And I still got asked where I got it from after all!! As if I know where the cup is from!! Ask your son!! I bought it with points from his minigame in the first place!! Although, it’ll be nine years before you can ask him that.
But I can’t say any of that, leaving me no choice but to lie through my teeth. “……In truth, I don’t even recall when I stored it away.”
“It must have been quite long ago if that is the case…”
Rather than the past, it’s from nine years in the future. I’d definitely end up say something I shouldn’t if the conversation kept going in this direction, so I needed to switch up the topic. Which reminded me, the cargo was still in the middle of being loaded. “Now then, as we were interrupted transporting the wares, shall I finish moving them to the wagons?”
I proceeded to move everything out of my 【Closet】 and into the wagons, scaring the driver in the process. The three wagons were then sent on their way ahead of the carriage. Afterwards, my father summoned me to the drawing room for a thorough explanation, so I made my way there with Ursch-kun and Father-in-Law in tow.
I had a few a few things to explain to them, as did Ursch-kun and his father, but when we got in the drawing room my parents still had yet to arrive. While we waited for the servants to prepare the tea, the conversation returned to the lemonade. I honestly wished he’d just forget about it, but I lost to Father-in-Law’s intense curiosity, and pulled out more lemonade for the two of them
“Heeeh. This really is delicious~” Ursch-kun drank the lemonade without a care for when or where it came from. I wished he’d be a little more cautious… Aah, Ursch-kun, your smile is so lovely. So relaxing.
“I know it’s my first time drinking this, but because it’s so delicious, I’m sure it’ll definitely sell.” Ever the merchant, Father-in-Law keenly viewed the lemonade as a potential new product. But, even if he asked, I wouldn’t be able to give him the recipe since even I didn’t know it.
“Ye~p, but how much to charge is the question. This must be made from high quality ingredients, don’t you think~?” Eh? Could it be… did Ursch-kun recognize the ingredients just by drinking it? That’s amazing! He has the talent to be a chef!! Even though I drank the same thing, I had no idea what was in it.
“Ursch, what are the necessary ingredients to make this?”
“First, lemons~. Then sugar and honey from a D-rank Honeybee monster. Then it needs to be diluted, probably with hot water. And then you add just a pinch of salt.”
Ursch-kun… is it just me, or was there a dangerous ingredient mentioned in the middle there? As I sat dumbfounded by this special ingredient that definitely didn’t exist in my previous life, Father-in-Law became concerned in earnest at what he’d heard.
“Ye~s. Honeybee honey is quite expensive though, but we might be able to substitute it with regular honey. The only downside is that we’d have to add more sugar, which would raise the price.” I know right? Regular honey would still work well enough, yeah? Why would Ursch-kun specify a particular honey from some Honeybee monster thing? But thinking about it, does that kind of thing actually exist here?
“Yep. Normally, it’d be fine to sell it like that, but, by using Honeybee honey, this lemonade gains the ability to cure ailments, thus greatly raising its value, see?” He got that much just from drinking it?! This isn’t just on the level having a heightened sense of taste, this is special ability level stuff you know?!
As if sensing my immense surprise, Father-in-Law smiled at me. “Aah, I suppose we should tell your bride-to-be, Miss Isabella. Ursch was born with the skill 《Appraisal》. You see, our bloodline periodically produce offspring with the 《Appraisal》 skill.”
Uwhat!! Father-in-Law just bequeathed me bride-to-be!! I can take this as a sign of Ursch-kun’s family blessing our marriage, right?! Although I am but an inexperienced villainess, I place myself humbly in your care!! Plus, I got to learn more about Ursch-kun’s previously unknown background!! He did say “I think I’ll even be able to synthesize them” before, so it must be thanks to that Appraisal ability.
“When I turn 15, I’m gonna enroll in “Rosereale National Magic Academy’s Alchemy Department.” That makes sense for why he was selling his Magic Item creations to his fellow students. Though I think he skipped Alchemist and went right to Sage-level item creation.
Wait. It couldn’t be that Ursch-kun actually made all his shop’s items himself, could it? That might be right, actually. After all, it was clearly written in the script when you entered his shop.
《Welcome! Here’s where I sell my Magic Item creations~》
《In this corner are the items I created in class~ Exchange your points for them~》
《And in this corner, are my signature items~ You can purchase them with eMoney~》
Oh man. I visited his shop so much that I have every line memorized. Thinking about it now, did the Ursch-kun in the game get permission from the school to hawk his wares? Ursch-kun didn’t have a specified location he’d stay at in the school, he was a wandering character. When I wanted items from him, I had to hunt him down in the school grounds. It almost made it seem like he was some kind of black market dealer.
Not long after learning about Ursch-kun’s skill, Father and Mother finally arrived in the drawing room. “Mr. Schneiver and son, and Bella, please forgive our tardiness. I apologize you had to bear witness to such an unsightly spectacle earlier.” Father explained as he entered and sat on the sofa.
Although he looked as if he’d regained his composure after collapsing, his eyes and nose were quite red. D-Did he cry… there’s no way, right?
“Hoho, this poor man, he just cried and wept after his sweet Bella brought her desired fiance before him. He couldn’t even stand the thought of looking upon him. Just bringing him here was quite difficult.” Mother just smiled pleasantly beside father as she ripped him apart.
With that huge build of his, wouldn’t Father hate to cry? Don’t pout and turn away, please. So not cute, not cute at all.
“Ts- I did no such thing!” Looks like he won’t admit it. Despite it being so obvious. Father-in-Law looked very much like he was watching over something precious.
Whether Father caught on to that or not, he took on a serious expression and delved into the main topic. “Now then, what I wanted to discuss with you two was in regards to my youngest daughter, Bella, and her earlier declaration. I realize from reports given by our servants that she has a skill quite useful to merchants such as yourselves, however…” After saying all that, he turned to me with a serious look in his eye and asked, “First, Bella. You said you wanted to get married to that young boy over there, the son of the merchant—a commoner. Are you aware of that status he holds?”
“Yes. Very much so.” I looked straight at him and nodded with sincerity, causing Father to heave a great sigh before continuing.
“You are the daughter of a Dukedom, one with an extremely useful skill. You will doubtlessly receive endless marriage proposals with very favorable conditions. In the future, you may find yourself coming to regret your engagement to this young fellow, have you seriously considered such a situation?”
“Of course I have. I have no interest in marrying anyone other than Ursch. No matter how good any other marriage prospects may be, I will refuse them all.” These were feelings that crossed infinite worlds. I had only one condition for any offer of marriage. That it be with Ursch.
“Is that so. Mr. Schneiver, as you have just heard, my daughter desires to be engaged to your son.” Father and Father-in-Law faced each other, ready to begin talks. Father with his steadfast face, and Father-in-Law with his business-minded smile that betrayed no emotions. No room remained for me to butt in. Although it was by no means perfect, I still had a plan to persuade them, just in case.
“That would appear to be the case. From my family’s perspective, I can see no reason to refuse such a request, thus I believe it best to leave everything else henceforth to your discretion.” Maintaining his business smile, Father-in-Law replied innocuously and politely.
Now that I think about it, he acknowledged me as his son’s bride just before, so now he had to be very careful in how he spoke to the Duke, didn’t he? Now, what will Father do from here? If for some reason he disapproves, then I’ll have to put my newly polished persuasion plan into action. I’ve never made a formal presentation before, so I can only prepare by calming my own nerves.
“Indeed. From my thinking, Bella herself would be better suited to marry someone from a more prestigious family. However… all of our family have married for true love, myself included. For her to be the sole one not to choose her own marriage partner would just be too pitiful, I can’t even imagine it.” For nobles, not being able to marrying the person of your choice was commonplace, but with my family’s level of political might, there was no real reason for me to increase it further with a political marriage. So please, please!! Give me your blessing to marry Ursch-kun!! I begged my father from my heart.
“Be that as it may, Bella is still only a six-year old child. Although she says this now, as children age, the person they’re in love with also commonly changes. Therefore, I cannot give my blessing for an engagement so soon. I do not wish to deprive her the freedom of changing her mind in the future.”
Urk. I can’t really criticize his decision as he’s technically not wrong. It’s true that children’s hearts change over time, but my heart is already an adult, a real adult!! Though my body’s current age might be influencing my thoughts and feelings… And just because I have the mind of an adult doesn’t mean there’s absolutely no way I won’t change my mind either, but at the very least I want to believe mine won’t change.
“That being said, I’d like to designate your son there, Ursch, as one of Bella’s ‘Betrothal Candidates’. How does that work for you?”
“All right, that sounds perfectly reasonable. I consider us most fortunate that you even deemed my son worthy of a chance.”
“Bella, I’m sure you’re satisfied with this arrangement as well?”
Not at all. I wanted to be engaged to Ursch-kun right away, before any little bugs could attach themselves to him!! I looked up at my father with my cheeks puffed, and resorted to silence to convey my dissatisfaction. But, no matter how dissatisfied I was, it would be too selfish of me not to compromise. I should be content with Ursch-kun as a “Fiance Candidate” for now. And yet… “I don’t like him being a ‘Betrothal Candidate’. I don’t need any other candidates.”
